In an effort to promote peace and unity in Nigeria, members of United Nigeria Project have visited Nigeria Television Authority, NTA headquarters Abuja seeking partnership.
The team was led by its Executive Directors, Amb Ibrahim Waiya representing the North and Amb Kenule Nwiya jnr representing the Southern region of the country.
At the visit, the team decried that despite human and material resources the country is blessed with, ethnic and religious biases has kept the country backward.
Speaking on behalf of the team, Amb Ibrahim Waiya said, "Nigeria is blessed and endowed with mineral resources, abundant farmlands with hard working and intellectual citizens from the eastern, western, southern, and northern parts of the country.
"However, political, regional, religious, and ethnic sentiments in some parts of the country, have been continuously used by some anti Nigeria elements too create a bad image of the Nation. This has led to hatred for one another and culture shock, thereby depriving us from utilizing our God given potentials to rightly reposition the country strategically as one of the giants and fastest growing country in the World.
"Unfortunately, the situation in the country in recent time has also given birth to some new regional agitations, this ugly development therefore constantly scared away the potential investors from other parts of the country, to hugely invest in Nigeria.
"However, these kinds of challenges are not only peculiar to Nigeria, as many countries have similar challenges or even worse than that, and yet they prosper. Nbne state actors are widely being accepted all over the World, as a major and critical constituency which to a large extent serves as a complimentary pillar in building positive image for a country. The Nigerian entertainment industry has been one of the best exports out of Nigeria.
"They have continued to portray the country in positive and good image, this has continuously earned the country the patronage from all over the World, as a potentially investment hub and partner.
"It is apposite that we use this industry to unite our citizens and tell our story in a way that it will diffuse to the world. Our music, Movies, Theatre and Culture are one of the most sought after today.
"This sectors in other countries have tremendously helped in promoting national unity and peace in the country. The Nigerian government has over the years spent billions of naira through military campaigns to ensure peace and security in the country.
"The present government in Nigeria is currently making waves through different interventions, to contain the peace and security challenges. Some of the apparent efforts by the present Government include creating and establishing more military formations, purchase of military hardwires and ammunitions, increased cooperation and bilateral relations with different countries within and outside the continent."
He therefore advocated partnership with NTA on ways to address these challenges so that the country will be more peaceful.
The NTA Director General who was represented by the Director Administration and Training Dr. Steve Egbo expressed gratitude to the team for their visit, assuring that as a responsible organisation, it will continue to support any agenda that will promote national peace and unity.
