Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, on Saturday night, equalled late football icon, Diego Maradona’s World Cup record of eight goals for the Albiceleste.
Messi achieved the feat after scoring a goal in Argentina’s World Cup 2-0 win over Mexico.
Two goals from Messi and Enzo Fernandez gave Argentina the victory over Mexico.
Messi’s goal against Mexico at the Lusail Stadium was his second of the tournament.
The 35-year-old ended up winning the Man of the Match award.
However, Messi’s goal against Mexico took his tally in the World Cup to eight, equaling Maradona’s record for Argentina in the process.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward will now hope to surpass Maradona’s goals when Argentina face Poland in their next World Cup tie on Wednesday.
