...Plans Training of Primary School Pupils, Secondary School Students and Health Officials on the Use of Computer, Proper Data Filing

Determined to bridge the gap between rural and urban areas using digital means, the Igboetiti Tech-Hub, has so far, trained over 85 rural dwellers on digital skills, while empowering trainees with materials to enable them become self-employed and employable in the digital market.

The Tech Hub is a new phenomenon which began operating about 4 or 5 months ago, following the total reconstruction of the existing moribund structure to a wolrd class learning centre

The areas of training of the residents of the local council include Microsoft word, Data Analysis using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power point, Graphics/user interface design using Figma, Canva and Pixellab, Web development and Basic computer troubleshooting.

This is also as the Tech-Hub plans to commence Outreach to all Primary and Secondary schools located in Igbo-etiti local government to train students on the practical use of computers.

The outreach, according to findings by Enugupress.ng will include Medical Health Centers across the rural council, so as to train them on proper data filing using Microsoft office tools and cloud storage. This according to reports will help keep and secure records of patients and enable the government have access to health, birth and death records within the communities.

Recall that the Executive Chairman of Igboetiti LGA, Hon. Ikenna Nwodo-led administration has recently installed a wide range wireless network within the local government secretariat which grants all staff and persons training in the Tech hub a 24hrs Internet service.

Also, to ensure a steady power supply,  Hon. Nwodo had also introduced solar generator for the day-to-day activities at the LGA.

During a visit to the ICT innovation at the rural council by Enugupress.ng  correspondent, one of the trainers at the Tech-Hub who pleaded anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to press, explained that the Nwodo-led Administration at the LGA, has provided a revolution in the digital world at the council.

He also explained that "beyond training the rural dwellers on the use of computers, the entire LGA, now have access to advanced technological services and this has reduced the cost and risk factors associated with traveling outside the local government in order to have access to these modern day technology."

His words: "In line with this, we have been able to train 85 persons and certify 40 of them within the space of 3 months (June 21st – September 21st, 2023).

"Currently, we have a new batch of students that we’ve started training since 27th September, 2023."

"The areas of their training include Microsoft word, Data Analysis using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power point, Graphics/user interface design using Figma, Canva and Pixellab, Web development and Basic computer troubleshooting."

"As a result of introducing this Igbo-etiti Tech Hub by Hon. Ikenna Nwodo, the local government under his watch, has created job opportunities for some graduates and other adhoc staffs here.

"And this achievement cannot be complete without mentioning the introduction of the digital local governments’ data and information storage system. This has helped to reduce cost and improve on the safety and accessibility of government files and records.

"However as part of the local government’s commitment in ensuring growth in the digital and technological sector, a “train the trainers” workshop/seminar has been periodically organized for our LAG'S staffs by Microsoft/Wootlabs.

"And These trainings have covered Microsoft productivity tools, Google productivity tools, Cyber security, and Generative AI.

"Do you also know we now provide services like typing, printing, photocopying, JAMB, WAEC, NECO registration and result checking etc here?

"So it is my prayer that other rural councils emulate this wonderful revolution taking place in Igboetiti LGA," he concluded.

Meanwhile, the Council Chairman was recently honored with "DIGITAL LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMAN OF THE YEAR". This was in recognition of the exemplary leadership of Hon. Nwodo in advancing digital initiatives at the grassroots in line with the Federal Government digital transformation in the public sector.
