The Uzo Uwani local government Area, on 24th of October, 2023, flagged off vaccination exercise against humanpapiloma virus.
This was according to directives by the Enugu State Primary Health Care Development Agency in collaboration with State Ministry of Health, NPHCDA, WHO, UNICEF and other critical stakeholders.
The exercise which is targeted at female children between the ages of 9-14 years with polent HPV vaccine in the 17 LGAs in Enugu State, was aimed at protecting them against cervical cancer.
The vaccination period will be from 24 to 30 october 2023.
During the period, trained Health Workers will visit homes, schools, churches, market places and everywhere girls of 9 - 14 years are found to immunize them with HPV vaccine.
The Flagg off ceremony was performed by the wife of Uzo Uwani LGA chairman, Dr. Mrs. Ebele Nnadozie, Supervisor for health in the rural council, top health officials in the LGA and community stakeholders.
Speakers during the event, took turns to highlight the importance of the vaccination exercise to children under the age bracket.
They however, urged parents to bring their daughters to the nearest health facility to be vaccinated against Human Papillomavirus (cervical cancer).
The exercise which is free, safe and effective would be carried out across rural communities of the LGA.
