JUST IN: Enugu Set to Host 1st National Council on Sports Conference Meeting





The Enugu state government says it is ready to host the 1st National Council on Sports National Delegate Conference in the state.


The landmark event, themed "Sports for National Unity and Socio-Economic Growth," will commence on Monday, 20th of may, 2024, and end on 22nd of May, being Wednesday. 


The Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Lloyd Ekweremadu who disclosed this on Sunday in Enugu, explained that the event will feature technical sessions on Monday & Tuesday (May 20th to 21st), while the Council Meeting would take place on Wednesday, 22nd of May, 2024, at the Old Government Lodge, GRA, Enugu.


The Commissioner however, thanked the governor of the state, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for his immense supports for sports development in the state, and also, for granting approval for the  exercise. 


Those expected at the events include  President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh,  Commissioners of Sports across the nation, Permanent Secretaries, and Directors of Sports from the 36 states and the FCT, along with National Secretaries of Sports Federations and officials from the Federal Ministry of Sports Development."


Excerpts from the commissioner's statement read: "I'm thrilled to announce that Enugu State is set to host the 1st National Council on Sports National Delegate Conference (the highest decision-making body for sports in Nigeria)! 


"This landmark event, themed "Sports for National Unity and Socio-Economic Growth," will take place as scheduled:


"1. *Monday & Tuesday, May 20th to 21st* - Technical Sessions.


"2. *Wednesday, May 22nd, 2024* - Council Meeting at the Old Government Lodge, GRA, Enugu


"I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for his unwavering support and approval to host this significant conference. 


"We are excited to welcome President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, and all participants to our beloved Enugu State.


Meanwhile "The conference will bring together Commissioners of Sports, Permanent Secretaries, and Directors of Sports from the 36 states and the FCT, along with National Secretaries of Sports Federations and officials from the Federal Ministry of Sports Development."


Barr. Lloyd however, listed other sporting events successfully hosted in the state under the present administration to include  the Coal-City Half Marathon, the 1st Mixed Martial Arts Caged Fight, and the Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah Boxing Championship. 


Enugupress.ng reports that The Commissioner also lauded the successful completion of the FIFA artificial turf at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium and the return of Enugu Rangers to the city following the stadium's rehabilitation.
