Senator Osita Ngwu Pledges Support for Enugu State Universal Health Insurance Coverage Scheme

 


Senator Osita Ngwu has announced his commitment to enrolling indigent and needy constituents in the Enugu State Universal Health Insurance Coverage Scheme, ensuring access to quality and affordable healthcare for the people of Enugu West Senatorial Zone.


"I am dedicated to ensuring that my constituents have access to quality and affordable healthcare," said Senator Ngwu. "The Enugu State Universal Health Insurance Coverage Scheme is a vital program that will help us achieve this goal, and I am proud to support it."


On May 17th, a delegation from the Enugu State Agency for Universal Health Coverage, accompanied by Universal Health Care (UHC) consultants, visited the Enugu West Senatorial Liaison Office in Enugu. The delegation sought to collaborate with the Senator's office for seamless integration of his program for Enugu West into the existing government healthcare delivery structure in Enugu State.


The Enugu State Universal Health Insurance Coverage Scheme is a government-funded program that aims to provide affordable healthcare to all residents of Enugu State. The program covers a range of healthcare services, including primary care, specialist care, and hospitalization.


Hon. Emeka Aneke, Chief of Staff to the Senator, received the delegation and commended the Coordinators for their dedication and proactive approach. He assured them that the Senator's office is carefully considering the adoption method of the Universal Health insurance coverage scheme in the state, with a view to enrolling indigent constituents in the program when it is rolled out by the State government.


Key points discussed during the meeting include:


- Seamless integration of Senator Ngwu's program for Enugu West into the existing government healthcare delivery structure in Enugu State

- Support for the Enugu State Agency for Universal Health Coverage scheme

- Potential areas of primary healthcare development in the zone


Hon. Aneke encouraged the Coordinators to intensify their grassroots enlightenment efforts, highlighting the benefits of the program to the masses, and urged public-spirited individuals to embrace the adoptive program, particularly in rural areas. He emphasized that affordable healthcare delivery is a core aspect of Senator Osita Ngwu's service agenda, and the Senator is committed to ensuring a healthy population in the zone, which will, in turn, increase wealth creation.


Furthermore, Hon. Aneke informed the delegation that Senator Osita Ngwu has established a standing Healthcare Advisory Committee, chaired by Dr. Casmir Ochie, a renowned Consultant Physician at UNTH Enugu. The committee comprises healthcare professionals, community resource persons, and representatives from civil society organizations (CSOs). The committee's primary objective is to ensure that the Senator's office remains informed and up-to-date on the healthcare needs of his constituents, enabling the development of proactive policies and initiatives that address these needs effectively.


The meeting was attended by various officials, including Hon. Ike Diloha, SSA to the Senator on Health; two consultants partnering with Enugu State Health Insurance Scheme; Liaison Officers representing each LGA of the Zone; Hon Amechi Aniagba, SSA to the Senator on Media; and Comr. Okoro Ignatius Chukwumerije, LA on Public Enlightenment.
