We 'II empower youths in AI, digital skills - Ogbonna, newly elected NYGA president


The newly elected National President of the Nsukka Youths General Assembly (NYGA), Comrade Clinton Ogbonna has said that his administration will empower Nsukka youths in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital skills to make them self-reliant and keep them away from crime and drug abuse.

Ogbonna said this in Nsukka on Saturday while making his acceptance speech shortly after he was declared the new president-elect of NYGA with 11 other elected executive members.

He said that AI technologies and digital skills are transforming every walk of life in today's world, stressing that his administration will train the youths in those areas to keep them away from crime, drug abuse, and other societal ills, as well as make them useful to themselves and the society.
"I and my newly elected executive members contested this election because we want to speak and be the voice of Nsukka youths, we are not going to fight the government or anybody but to make a positive impact on the youths by empowering them.

"To achieve this we have to engage the government, our National Assembly representatives, policymakers, the private sector, and other relevant stakeholders to solicit their support in sponsoring youth empowerment programmes in AI, digital skills, cyber security, digital data analysis, among others

"The easiest way of achieving crime and drug-free society among the youths is by empowerment, and the empowerment should be based on the skills that will make them self-reliant and compete favorably with their counterparts globally," he said.
Speaking further, Ogbonna pledged to carry everybody along including those that contest with him to ensure unity and progress for the youths.

He also commended the Electoral Committee Members led by Mr. Onyekachi Attama for conducting a peaceful free and fair election, the was even as he thanked members of the youth assembly for giving him their mandate to be their new president.

He equally commended the outgoing president, Comrade Roy Ekwueme for his quality leadership and promised to consolidate his achievements.
Speaking, the outgoing NYGA President, Ekwueme said that he is happy to witness the peaceful election that produced his successor.

"I'm happy for today's peaceful election that produced the next president of NYGA and other executive members of the assembly.

"Peace and unity reigned during my four-year tenure because I carried everybody along.

"As a human, I know I did my best, not that I did not make any mistakes but I know I impacted positively on Nsukka youths. 

"As the election is peaceful so also will the inauguration and handover will be seamless," he said.
Ekwueme noted that his administration will be remembered for the unity, peace, and empowerment among Nsukka youths.

"The unity manifested during the End Sars nationwide protest with Nsukka youths participated activity with any report of casualty or destruction of public and private properties.

"My administration will also be remembered for conducting computer training programmes, paying JAMB registration fees for indigent youths, assisting the payment of hospital bills for some youths, among others," he said.

The outgoing president expressed appreciation to Nsukka youths for the solidarity and support given and urged them to extend same to the newly elected president.
Ogbonna scored 284 votes to defeat his opponent Eze Martins who scored 106 votes, the election was held at Adada hall, Nsukka LG council headquarters.

NYGA is an apex body for youth organizations in Enugu North Senatorial District of Enugu state.
