The Federal House of Representatives, has introduced a bill seeking the creation of “Adada State” from the current Enugu State.

The Bill was presented for first reading on Thursday, 3rd of October, 2024.

The bill entitled “A BILL FOR AN ACT TO ALTER THE CONSTITUTION OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA 1999 (AS AMENDED) TO CREATE A NEW STATE IN THE SOUTH EAST GEOPOLITICAL ZONE OF NIGERIA KNOWN AS ADADA STATE AND FOR RELATED MATTERS,” is sponsored by HON. MARTINS OKE, HON. SIMON ATIGWE, HON. CHIDI OBETTA and HON. PAUL NNAMCHI.

You have nailed it like always. I understand that you expect me to proofread before publication which is a perfect idea. Thanks so, so much.

The bill seeks to amend three section of the 1999 Constitution to replace the word “36” with “37” to accommodate the new state, and  adding “Adada” immediately after “Abia” in the list of states.

The proposed Adada State would encompass the local government areas of Igbo-Etiti, Igbo-Eze North, Igbo-Eze South, Isi-Uzo, Nsukka, Udenu, Uzo-Uwani, with Nsukka designated as the state capital.

This was contained in the bill presented by Dr. Martins Oke, member  representing Igboetiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency at the Green Chambers.

Further Findings by Enugupress.ng indicates that "The bill seeks to amend Section 3(1) and the First Schedule, Part 1, States of the Federation, of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), to provide for the creation of ADADA STATE to bring the number of south eastern states to six, to be at pal with most of other geographical zones in Nigeria."
